IS HAVING A VEHICLE APPRAISAL NEW?
As of October 1st, 2022, British Columbia introduced a new method of calculating tax on private vehicle purchases. This requires buyers to pay taxes based on the posted average wholesale value, even if the actual purchase price is lower.

Online or in-person vehicle appraisals are for individuals who buy their vehicle at a price thats BELOW MARKET VALUE. This quick and easy appraisal can prevent you from overpaying on taxes during vehicle ownership transfers in B.C.
CAN IT SAVE ME MONEY?
ICBC uses the Canadian Black Book for tax calculations. However, this often doesn’t represent the true value of the vehicle - especially if it has defects. By obtaining an appraisal from a mechanic, you can ensure an accurate assessment of your vehicle's value. This will likely save you money on PST.
